This year we’ve seen many shoujo anime getting adapted into anime or getting an official announcement for the same, like A Condition Called Love and Yamada Kun lvl 999. A Sign of Affection anime seems to be the next up in line. The manga has been nominated for Best Shojo Manga for three years consecutively. A Sign of Affection also inspired a stage play.

Coming back to anime, will the anime adaptation of A Sign of Affection be a complete one? If yes, how many seasons is it going to have? A question that first pops up in the case of anime adaptation. This article explores all of these questions.

The official announcement was made through the website along with the PV release and celebratory visuals by Suu Morishita. A Sign of Affection is the story of Yuki and Itsuomi. The manga captures Yuki’s hearing disability with the utmost sensitivity and how she grows around it.

The romance is natural but interesting. There’s no high school setting and all the cliches are absent in this story. The beautiful art style accentuates the experience of the manga. The art style has updated so much from the previous works of Suu Morishita like Hibi Chouchou. All one can hope for is the anime adaptation captures all of it.

With anime adaptations, it’s always a question of how much of the manga they’ll cover. If it’ll be a complete adaptation or not. In the case of A sign of affection, the possibilities look something like this.

  • The anime will get one season and that’s it for now. We don’t have enough chapters to have a confirmed season 2 anytime soon.
  • In case a season 2 happens, it’ll be years later in the future.
  • The popularity of season 1 will also affect the chances of a sequel.
  • One of the things that make A Sign of Affection so good is the pacing, to have a similar pacing as the manga the chapters to episode proportion should be good. This again poses a lack of chapters as a problem for the future of the anime.

Based on pure speculations it’s safe to assume that A Sign of Affection will have no more than one season. There are not enough chapters to adapt. Even for the anime that’s coming up in 2024, we only have 31 chapters.

Horimiya and Yamada Kun lvl 999 are great comparisons here. Both the anime has done well, and Horimiya topped multiple charts as well. Even then the creators tried to sum up the story in season 1, skipping many chapters and directly jumping to the end.

Horimiya: The Missing Pieces is technically a sequel, but there was a difference of 2 years between the parts. In the case of Yamada Kun level 999, there’s no announcement of season 2 unlike many other anime this season.

Whether we get multiple seasons or not, the anime adaptation should be a good one. The manga is well-written and has a fanbase that appreciates it. Hopefully, the creators will grasp exactly what makes A Sign of Affection so beautiful.
