The anime sphere has a severe deficiency of strong female characters but Black Clover stands out as an exception with characters like Mereleona, Noelle, Vanica, and many others. Black Clover lived up to the reputation with Noelle’s new power-up in chapter 359.
In the recent chapter of Black Clover, we see Acier Silva coming back from the dead, she is the mother of Noelle, Nozel, Nebra, and Solid Silva. She defeats the rest of her children except for Noelle. Noelle stands strong against her with a new power-up. Let’s see what Noelle’s new power-up is about.
The story so far
The last time we saw Noelle having a power-up was with the spirit Undine. She attained the saint stage with the help of the spirit. A Valkyrie Armor emerged on her body, making her look like a guardian.
As Noelle stands against her mother, we get a glimpse into her past. When Asta disappeared Noelle was let down by it but instead of staying like that, she decides to get stronger as she knows Asta will come back. And when he does, she wants to fight along with him.
At the same time Kahono appears, she lets Noelle know that the sea god Leviathan is looking for a strong water mage who can unite with him to fight against the danger that’s looming over the world and Noelle is the strongest water spirit she knows. The danger is Lucius.
Noelle’s power-up
Noelle unites with the sea god Leviathan similar to the way she did with Undine or Yuno with Bell. We see her transforming into an updated Valkyrie Armor. Acier and Solid acknowledge that Noelle has gotten stronger.
Similar to Yuno’s power-up, this might be a permanent power-up. And the sea god might decide to stay with Noelle. She also appears like Asta which can be a sign of her catching up with him and becoming similar to him. Her eyes look exactly like Asta’s.
What does Leviathan represent
Leviathan is a sea monster according to mythology. It’s a humongous sea creature like a whale or can be a mythical creature. The sea monster is the embodiment of envy and chaos. While there are no signs of envy in Noelle, she has a chaotic amount of mana energy which she struggled a lot to control. So she already has personal experience with controlling chaotic energy. This can help her get the best out of her union with Leviathan.
Leviathan also eats up the damned afterlife. And now, Noelle has united with the monster and is up against the dead who have come back to life. This is a contrast between what the sea god is known for and what Noelle is up against.
So far we have only seen the updated version of the Valkyrie Armor and the changes to it because of Leviathan. We are yet to see the complete power stretch of the Monster and how Noelle adapts to it.
Can Leviathan change to its original form while fighting? Will we get to see them training together in the past? Is it a permanent power-up? Can Leviathan be a devil?
Conclusion
Fans have mixed reactions, everyone likes the power but the way it happened is getting mixed reactions. One side is saying that the power-up was rushed and pulled out of nowhere. Others are defending it by saying Yuki Tabata has been foreshadowing the power-up in the manga for quite some time. Either way, our girl Noelle has become really strong and only going to get stronger from here on.
