Three years after its release, Dogeza de Tanondemita is still worth the watch for its perfect casting choices. The anime came out in the fall of 2020 and has a unique concept wrapped up in sensual comedy. It doesn’t have much going on, but getting one of the best voice actors, Tomokazu Sugita, on board, alleviated the experience.
The anime focuses on the female characters, making the main character Suwaru Doge rarely visible giving a sense of POV to the viewer. Dogeza de Tanondemita has brought together the perfect pieces to make the puzzle look perfect to a very specific type of audience, whether we talk about the cast or the concept. Let’s break down all of it and understand this quirky Anime a bit better.

The man Tomokazu Sugita has made a name for himself by voicing some of the most beloved characters in the anime community. He has been crowned as the King of Comedy and rightfully so.
Some of the characters he has voiced are Gintoki Sakata from Gintama, Joseph Joestar from JoJo’s bizarre adventure, and Charlotte Katakuri from One Piece. He has been active in this profession since 1998 and his experience seeps through his performances.
Dogeza de Tanondemita: what is it about?
“You can’t get ahead in life without getting started” or as our main character, Suwaru Doge believes, without kneeling or kowtowing. Suwaru Doge has decided that he’ll just Dogeza his way through life. Dogeza is a traditional Japanese etiquette where one kneels down on the ground and bows to touch his head to the floor. This is done when asking a favour, apologising or submitting to a person’s higher status.
Suwaru Doge believes in kneeling and begging women to show him their pantsu(underwear) or tell him their sizes or just about anything. This leaves the women in a daze. As ridiculous as the plot sounds, Tomokazu Sugita proves himself to be the best choice with the addition of his humour to it.
Every episode features a new request from the MC with a new female character. These female characters are from different settings in every episode, with different personalities and stories. The episodes are very short, about 3 minutes long with a 30 seconds outro.
The anime is also honest with its plot, not rationalizing the plot or the absurdities that come along with it.
Why is it worth a watch in 2023?
The anime takes itself seriously but in a sarcastic manner. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, it’s here to specifically serve men of culture or the cultured degenerates. If you don’t like dirty jokes or sex comedy, stop right here this anime isn’t for you! The anime is here for the fan service and doesn’t try to hide the fact with its short episodes.
The story is straightforward and serves what it promises but is censored. There’s nothing more or less to this anime. The anime hardly strays from its central plot.
Tomokazu Sugita adds his comic element and goes well with the narration. For a POV setting, the dialogues are high effort and funny. Fans who are familiar with his work will immediately recognize his style and what he’s trying to do. His association with the anime also gives the anime more credibility among other anime from the same genre.
Dogeza de Tanondemita doesn’t shy away from the degeneracy it portrays. Reminding the purpose of the anime with every episode. It can be watched as a guilty pleasure or a form of self-pleasure for the cultured degenerates. If you’re looking for ecchi content, this might just be what you’re looking for.
