Eiken: Is it a rip-off of Highschool DxD?

Eiken

Eiken is a romantic comedy that centres around the story of Densuke Mifune, an ordinary boy pressurised into joining the Eiken Club, a group of female students with well-endowed figures. On the other hand, High School DxD is a series that revolves around supernatural action, wherein Issei Hyodo, a high schooler with a perverted personality, is brought back to life as a devil and becomes a member of the Gremory Team, a group of exceptionally beautiful devil girls. Is Eiken a rip-off of Highschool DxD, considering their similarities and differences?

Densuke Mifune is an ordinary boy who recently got admitted into the prestigious Zashono Academy. He is enthusiastic about participating in extracurricular activities, but he never thought he would end up becoming a member of the secretive Eiken Club. Strangely enough, every other member is a busty co-ed, and many of the club’s activities involve bikinis. But Densuke isn’t interested in anyone but the shy and beautiful Chiharu.

Densuke is forced into the Eiken Club after an accidental run-in with Chiharu. He eventually accepts his place in the club, despite being tormented by Kirika and the other mishaps that befall him, i.e. being beaten, violently crushed (Kirika, Yuriko) or electrocuted (Kyoko) by other members. Densuke is frequently forced to cross-dress by Kirika, a hobby of hers.

The Eiken Club is a mystery to everyone, even the members themselves. The club’s president, Kirika, is the only one who knows the true purpose of the club. She keeps the club’s activities a secret, even from the other members.

The story of Highschool DxD follows Issei Hyodo, a high school student with perverted behaviour, who aspires to become a harem king. However, his first date turns out to be a fallen angel who ends up killing him. But, Issei is later resurrected as a devil by the red-haired devil princess, Rias Gremory, who commands him to serve her and her devil family. Issei also becomes part of the Gremory Team. As he develops a closer relationship with Rias, it puts the angels, the fallen angels, and the devils in danger.

The main plot of High School DxD revolves around Issei and his friends participating in Rating Games, which are competitions between devils to determine their social status and power. Issei and his friends also have to deal with various threats from fallen angels, other devils, and other supernatural beings.

High School DxD also features several subplots, such as Issei’s attempts to build his harem, Rias’s struggles to balance her duties as a devil princess and her relationship with Issei, and the developing relationships between the other members of the Gremory Team.

  • Male protagonist faces supernatural threats: The protagonists from both the series have to deal with a variety of supernatural threats. • Fan service: Both Eiken and High School DxD feature fan service. Fan service is a common element in anime, and it refers to scenes that are designed to appeal to the male audience. In Eiken, the fan service is mostly harmless and comedic. In High School DxD, the fan service is more explicit.

The Two Series Also Share Some Key Dissimilarities:

It is important to note that similarities shared between two series do not necessarily mean that one is a rip-off of the other. While Eiken and High School DxD share some similarities, they are entirely not the same.

  • Eiken is a comedy-romance series, while High School DxD is a supernatural action series.
  • The relationships between the characters are different in the two series. In Eiken, Densuke’s relationships with the other members of the Eiken Club are platonic. In High School DxD, Issei’s relationships with the other members of the Gremory Team are romantic.
  • The overall tone of the two series is slightly different. Eiken is a lighthearted and comedic series, while High School DxD is a serious and action-packed series.

Conclusion

While Eiken and High School DxD share some similarities, it’d be unfair to straight-up call Eiken a complete rip-off of Highschool DxD without giving it a chance.
