Jujutsu Kaisen: Does Utahime’s cursed technique turn the series into a turn-based combat game?

Jujutsu Kaisen: Does Utahime’s cursed technique turn the series into a turn-based combat game?

The nature of turn based games have always been about attacking, swapping and hitting back (or taking a hit). The nature of which may be now implemented in Gojo Satoru’s battle against the strongest sorcerer in history, Sukuna. Here’s how this is implemented in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 223 using Utahime’s cursed technique.

WHO IS UTAHIME?

In the series “Jujutsu Kaisen,” Utahime Iori is a supporting character and a second-year student at Kyoto Metropolitan Magic Technical High School. She is known as the “Utahime of West” and possesses a strong singing voice, which she uses to perform special rituals and spells. She is a member of the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event team and actively participates in combating curses alongside other jujutsu sorcerers.

SPECULATIONS ABOUT HER CURSED TECHNIQUE

Utahime’s technique is speculated to be singing because her name in Kanji is 庵歌姫, and possesses the kanji character 歌 (うた, romaji: uta) meaning “song” and “sing.”

Fans were left wondering whether or not Utahime possesses a vocal cursed technique similar to that of Toge Inumaki. We already know about cursed speech, Toge Inumaki being the most well-known curse user of this cursed technique. The assertion of whether singing conceptually is similar to Toge’s technique in how it assaults cursed beings was a topic of debate, and some fans even speculated that her singing involves reversed curse technique, that is, it can impart a beneficial effect for another curse user or herself.

WHAT IT TURNED OUT TO BE

Akutami finally reveals Utahime’s cursed technique in Jujutsu Kaisen 223. It is called the Solo Forbidden Area which temporarily amplifies the total cursed energy amount and output of one willing sorcerer within its range, including Utahime herself. The technique can be elevated into a ritual using incantations, hand signs, dance, and music. By including all of these steps, the technique’s effectiveness can be raised to 120 percent.

  HOW DOES IT WORK

Gojou, Utahime, and Gakuganji working in unison to help Gojou hit Sukuna with a 200% effective Hollow Purple.

According to the author, the degree to which a sorcerer can omit intonation movements and other elements that comprise of activate a cursed technique determines that sorcerer’s skills but Utahime leaves nothing out as she mixes words, gestures, dance, and Gakuganji’s music while using gestures and words to elevate her technique into a ritual and by sublimating her cursed technique into a ritual, she gains more efficiency which helps Gojou land a successful blow to Sukuna.

FUTURE IMPLICATIONS

The full extent of Utahime’s Cursed Technique in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 223 has yet to be disclosed, but her initial usage of it appears to indicate that she turns out to be an important character in Gojo’s fight because she can boost Gojo’s Cursed Energy, and influence what Gojo can do, how long he can last, and how powerful he can truly become while he faces off Sukuna.

Utahime’s Cursed Technique is clearly a pivotal point to lead Gojo’s victory against Sukuna. If he’s able to take his already impressive attacks and multiply them greatly, he has a great chance at victory even against a Ten Shadows Technique user of Sukuna’s level.

It is likely that they will have to keep switching techniques in order to fend off Sukuna and his vast expanse of battle skills. Utahime and Gojo alongside other sorcerers might combine their forces in a turn-based combat strategy where they act in turns to weaken and ultimately overpower Sukuna.
