Written and illustrated by Saka Mikami, The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity is a new age high school shoujo manga following the lives of an often misunderstood Rintaro Tsumugi, student of Chidori High and optimistic Kaoruko Waguri, student of the Elite Kikyo School and their friends. The two begin a romance in secret despite their schools being rivals. Eventually, they become close friends sharing, learning and experiencing new emotions and adventures together.

Very rarely do we find a high school shoujo manga that shows the problems of students in a much realistic manner. The confusion and feelings of self doubt of students are well described using good illustration and dialogues. The characters are mature, understanding, and optimistic yet that does not seem to take away their innocence and youth.Β

The manga also sheds light on the statement β€˜don’t judge a book by its cover’, as it navigates the bitter relationship between the students of the rival schools. It describes how people are misunderstood and misinterpreted just because of how they look, talk or where are belong from, until somebody is kind and rebellious enough to question it.
