The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses - First Impressions Is it worth it (6)

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses is one of the more experimentative anime of Summer 2023. The anime is an adaptation of the manga with the same title by Koume Fujichika. The wholesome manga is about Komura who is in love with his classmate Mei. She has terrible eyesight and tends to forget her glasses pretty often. This situation ends up with Komura helping his crush around with things and getting to spend time with her.

The plot sounds generic and like any other romance manga, the animation is far from it. Studio GoHands has tried its best to incorporate as many visual elements as it could. Also one of the reasons behind the hype around The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses. Has the anime lived up to the hype? Is it worth watching? This article has a detailed explanation of exactly that.

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses: Here’s the First Impressions

Story

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses is like any other school romance. It’s wholesome, cute, and occasionally funny. It does all of that pretty well. The basic plot is the main girl, Mie forgetting her glasses and Komura helping her out. It doesn’t have anything setting it apart but the story is not trying to be different either. If the plot remains the same as the first episode it’s bound to get boring and annoying.

Visual aspects

The visual aspects are the primary reason behind the hype. Studio GoHands is going all out with the animation.

  • You’ll see fluid animation, with absurd camera angles, CGI, and experimental backgrounds.
  • Everything seems to be moving. Even the hair of the characters has got special animation and screen time.
  • The initial few minutes of the first episode feel like an explosion of colors and different visual elements. For example, there’s a scene where the background turns into a forest.
  • Either the anime will give you a headache or you’ll fall in love with the freshness. While the visual elements are nowhere near perfect they’re different for sure.

Music

The music complements the overall pace of the show. There are different musical effects used to accentuate some moments. While it doesn’t make a huge impression, you’ll notice how it’s helping.

Is it worth it?

This is one of those anime that everyone should try for the experimentative efforts of the creators. The animation quality and art style have become very uniform over the years. The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses gets a ten on ten for trying to be different visually. If it’s a success or a failure, there’s no definitive answer. But it’s worth a watch.

If the story piqued your interest and you don’t like the animation, you can always go ahead and read the manga.

Conclusion

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses is worth a try. Given the fact that it was only episode one toning down the judgment might also help. If you’re not convinced by the visual appeal of the anime, you should skip this one. With upcoming episodes there’s a lot of space for improvement in terms of the plot and also the animation. We’ll see how much the anime strays from the first impressions and if it’s for the better.
