On July 3rd, 2023, much to the fan’s surprise, Black Butler was announced to receive a much-awaited sequel at the Anime Expo. The sequel is scheduled for 2024. Following on September 10th, 2023, additional information was released about the anime including the synopsis and character designs during the Aniplex Online Fest 2023. After 6 years, what is this sequel going to be about?
Black Butler
Ciel Phantomhive is an Earl of England, who is also known as the “Queen’s Guard Dog“. He is tasked to handle many unsettling matters in Victorian England for Her Majesty. Followed closely by his aide and loyal butler, Sebastian Michaelis, who seems to have inhumane abilities. This enigmatic duo gets the job done by using whatever means necessary. However, beyond their successful track record, hide a secret far more cruel than death.
The Public School Arc
The upcoming sequel will be covering the Public School Arc of the series. Students have gone missing in the prestigious Weston College, one of them happens to be the son of Queen Victoria’s cousin. Having a strict tradition of no interference from the government, Ciel is tasked to find the truth behind the disappearance of Her Majesty’s relative. What will he find?
- Ciel enrolls in the college and Sebastian joins in as Sapphire Owl’s new headmaster.
- They aim to find Derrick in the Violet House.
- Ciel attempts to become a Fag, however, he meets a competition.
- Using his wits, he dismisses his adversary and becomes a fag.
- He attempts to pry answers out of the P4 about Derrick.
- His only lead is to meet the Headmaster during the Midnight Tea Party.
- He joins the Traditional Cricket Match and wins but with tactics of other means.
- He meets the Headmaster, but things turn out to be different than what he expected them to be.
The Arc will take the story closer to the ultimate revelation of the series and is a developmental arc. The arc will have various plot twists and betrayals. A sure fun time ahead for the fans.

The show will have some very mature and triggering themes such as bullying, a hierarchy of dominance, and discrimination. Death has always followed along the story of Ciel and Sebastian and this season will also be accommodating certain death signs. The sequel is expected to carry out the intricate hierarchy system and fans are expected to give it time to properly fester. The hierarchy system is complex and at many points in the story quite repulsive.
