One Piece Live Action’s new trailer has been released and it gives us a proper glimpse into the show. Despite the doubts, the trailer has managed to get a positive reception from the fans. Even though it’s not perfect, the accuracy and the attention to detail seeps through the trailer. Here are the top 5 things One Piece Live Action’s new trailer has done right.Â
Top 5 things One Piece Live Action’s new trailer has done right
5. The World and the Backgrounds
The world in One Piece is vast and diverse. The trailer gives us glimpses of Orange Town, Syrup Village, Logue Town, and Arlong Park. Albeit the differences in the color palette, the world is built well and extremely detailed. There’s also some play with the lighting in certain scenes which helps in conveying the mood in different moments.Â
4. Character designs
One Piece Live Action’s new trailer introduced us to many characters including Koby, Roger, and Mihawk. Koby is the most accurate. At the same time, Arlong looks unusual but that’s just how he is. Buggy is done well but he is falling more on the scary side of things.
The attention to the character designs is accentuated by the costumes and the cast. The characters are the same but not tacky which is bound to happen in the live-action adaptation of a series like One Piece.Â
3. Balanced creative changes
There are visible creative changes to the sets and character designs. The adaptation is respectful to the manga while making things more subtle with some tweaks here and there. For example: the character designs of Usopp and Sanji don’t have their iconic features but they are still easily recognisable.Â
2. The Characters of Zoro and Sanji
Zoro and Sanji stand out among the Strawhats. Mackenyu and Taz Skylar are perfect fits for Zoro and Sanji. Mackenyu has managed to capture the loyalty of Zoro to Luffy while being visibly annoyed with Sanji. At the same time, Taz is portraying Sanji’s smugness around Zoro and his chivalry (read simping) remarkably. Their banter also seems pretty accurate.Â
1. The essence of One Piece
The trailer captured the essence of One Piece extremely well. The mix of comedy, absurdity, tear-jerkers, and adrenaline-inducing fights. It transmits the feels of One Piece as it should be done in a Live Action. Based on the trailer, the Live-action is different from the anime and manga but falls into the category of a respectful adaptation of the long-running series.
Conclusion
The movement in the fights stands out a little odd with the visible wire effects but it doesn’t change the good parts in the slightest. The English dialogues are settling in without a heavy dose of cringe. The new trailer of One Piece Live Action makes the case of Live Action seem stronger. The involvement of Oda and the dedication of the crew might be the reason behind the well-done portrayal of One Piece.Â
