Eiko Masuyama renowned for voice acting in Lupin series passes away

Eiko Masuyama, the talented voice actress prominently known for her role as Fujiko Mine in “Lupin III”, passed away on May 20th at the age of 89 from natural causes. Her remarkable career spanned decades, leaving an indelible impact on fans and the anime industry.

This translates to: Voice actress Masuyama Eiko passed away on May 20th. In ‘Lupin the Third,’ she made a guest appearance in Part 1, and from Part 2 onwards she played the role of Fujiko Mine in many TV and film productions. We would like to express our gratitude for her many years of success and our condolences. Thank you.

Aoni Production’s Statement:

Masuyama’s agency, Aoni Production, also released a statement:

“Masuyama Eikogi (aged 89 at the time of death) had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, but passed away on May 20th, 2024, due to pneumonia for which no medicine could cure. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the kindness shown to us during her lifetime and would like to inform you of this news.”

The agency further mentioned that her wake and funeral were held privately, attended only by close family members.

Eiko Masuyama’s Career:

Eiko Masuyama was best known for her role as Fujiko Mine in the “Lupin III” anime series. She first made a guest appearance in this role in Part 1 of the series and continued to voice Fujiko Mine from Part 2 onwards. Her portrayal of the smart and seductive Fujiko Mine is top-notch which perhaps no other voice actor could have achieved.

Masuyama even received several prestigious awards for her voice acting talent.

  • She was honored in the Anime Achievement category at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in 2017.
  • She also received the Achievement Award at the 15th Seiyu Awards.

These awards reflect her significant contributions to the anime industry and make us realize she is irreplaceable.
