The Promised Neverland Season 3 would bring hope for the series to revive itself. With a disastrous second season, it will actually be intriguing to witness how the third season will neutralize those mistakes of the past. But, as much as fans want a revival of the beloved show, it is not actually clear and certain whether CloverWorks would take up another project on the same. The Promised Neverland manga has been written by Kaiu Shirai and has been illustrated by Posuka Demizu.
What is the story of The Promised Neverland?
The Promised Neverland is a dark anime piece that revolves around three children in a very imaginative setup. The children are trapped in an orphanage and it focuses on their whole plan to escape from the evils of that place. The children find out that they are being farmed for demons and that their entire joyful existence was only an illusion. The sinister undertone constantly runs throughout the entire plot and is an example of a classical ‘children’s apocalypse’.
The Promised Neverland also offers a very specific kind of genre, which is majorly experimental in nature. It explores a certain kind of dark drama, which interrogates the emotional and psychological aspects of children trapped in a certain kind of order. This also acts as a metaphor for the entrapment of society, which has been a fundamental interrogation of the entire show.
What went wrong with The Promised Neverland anime?
The first season of The Promised Neverland was excellently executed. It garnered immense popularity and was soon among the top charts as a popular thriller. However, it was the second season that contributed much to the downfall of the anime. The second season of the anime skipped major parts of the manga and attempted at creating an anime-original storyline. Therefore, major parts and chapters, including important arcs, were condensed and in some cases, entirely erased.
Arcs from the manga such as the Goldy Pond Battle Arc, Cuvitidala Arc, Seven Walls Arc, Imperial Capital Battle Arc, etc were erased and skipped. These were replaced with arcs such as the Promised Forest Arc and Search for Minerva Arc, which were also condensed and projected in an entirely different manner. Other episodes, which excluded any undertaking from the manga were coined as Anime-original ones.
The Promised Neverland Season 3 – is that a possibility?
There is no possible chance for The Promised Neverland Season 3. It is because of the unusual and unpopular adaptation of the second season, which completely derailed the entire anime. Moreover, it also ruined the prospect of a season 3 because of its disjunction with the original story.
However, there is a possibility that The Promised Neverland Season 3 might return as a disaster management segment. It will work if CloverWorks decides to produce it with the skipped arcs from the manga and finally undo its mistakes. The rectification of the error made in Season 2 will pave the way for The Promised Neverland Season 3, but the chances are almost invisible.
The Promised Neverland Season 3 would be a correction of the mistakes which the franchise made with Season 2. But that is a long shot to take and assume. While we might hope that a new season would rectify the errors of the past, CloverWorks might come up with a completely different plan if they ever decide to take up the project.
