Katsuki Bakugou is one of the most complex and well-developed characters in the anime and manga series My Hero Academia. He is a powerful and talented hero, but he is also arrogant, quick to anger, and has a history of bullying Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku.
Many fans have wondered whether things would have been different if Deku had never come into his life. After all, Deku was the only person whom Bakugou ever felt threatened by. Without Deku, would Bakugou have been more humble? More compassionate? More of a team player? or any lesser?
Katsuki Bakugou’s Bullying of Deku
Bakugou’s bullying of Deku began in childhood. Bakugou was always the strongest kid in his class, and he had a natural talent for heroics. Deku, on the other hand, was born without a Quirk, a superpower that is common in the world of My Hero Academia.
Bakugou saw Deku as a weakness, and he bullied him relentlessly. He would call him names, beat him up, and even tell him to kill himself. Deku never fought back, but he never gave up on his dream of becoming a hero.
Bakugou’s Jealousy of Deku
One of the main reasons why Bakugou bullied Deku was because he was jealous of him. Bakugou had always believed that he was the best, and he couldn’t stand the fact that Deku had become so powerful.
Bakugou was also jealous of Deku’s relationship with All Might, the world’s greatest hero. All Might had chosen Deku to be his successor, and Bakugou couldn’t believe that he had been passed over.
Bakugou’s Change of Heart
Over time, Bakugou began to change. He was inspired by Deku’s courage and determination, and he started to see Deku as more than just a weakness. Bakugou also realized that he needed to change his ways if he wanted to become a true hero.
Bakugou apologized to Deku for bullying him, and the two of them became rivals and friends. Bakugou has continued to grow and change throughout the series, and he is now one of the most respected heroes in the world.
Would Bakugou have been different if Deku did not exist?
It is clear that Deku had a significant impact on Bakugou’s life. Without Deku, Bakugou would not have had anyone to challenge him or push him to be his best. He would have likely continued to be arrogant and quick to anger. He may have even become a villain.
- Some people are just born to fight. It’s not that they’re born brave. It’s not that they’re born strong. It’s just that the universe has decided that this one, this one will have grit, fire, and steel in their blood. And it’ll be tested, this cosmic mettle of theirs. They’ll face trial after trial, and be broken and damaged in countless ways.
- But this one was born to fight. Maybe it’s not the life they would have chosen. Maybe they’d love to lay their arms down their arms. But they were born to fight. It’s what they know. It’s what they do best. It’s all they can do.
However, Deku also showed Bakugou what it means to be a true hero. Deku taught Bakugou the importance of courage, compassion, and teamwork. Without Deku, Bakugou would never have become the hero he is today.
Katsuki Bakugou is a complex and well-developed character who has undergone a significant transformation throughout the My Hero Academia series. It is clear that Deku had a significant impact on Bakugou’s life, and he helped to make Bakugou the hero he is today.
