  • The Introduction Arc established the main premise and the rules of the jujutsu world, as well as introducing the main characters and their personalities. We learned that curses are manifestations of negative emotions that can harm or kill humans and that jujutsu sorcerers are trained to exorcise them using cursed energy.
  • We also learned that Sukuna is the most powerful and feared curse in history and that his 20 fingers are scattered around the world, attracting other curses.

At the beginning of the series, Yuji Itadori was a normal teenager with exceptional physical abilities but no interest in sports or academics. He was part of the Occult Research Club at his school, where he found one of Sukuna’s fingers. When his friends were attacked by a curse, he swallowed the finger to protect them and became Sukuna’s vessel. He was then recruited by Satoru Gojo, a charismatic and eccentric teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, who saw his potential as a sorcerer and a weapon against Sukuna.

Yuji met his classmates Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki, who had contrasting personalities but shared a sense of justice and determination. He also met some of the jujutsu authorities, such as Masamichi Yaga, the principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High School, and Shoko Ieiri, the school doctor.

  • He learned that he was sentenced to death by the higher-ups for being Sukuna’s vessel, but Gojo convinced them to spare him until he collected all of Sukuna’s fingers.
  • The arc also introduced Jogo, a special-grade curse who resembled a volcano and had immense fire power. He attacked Yuji and Gojo in an abandoned building, where Yuji experienced his first taste of jujutsu combat and witnessed Gojo’s overwhelming strength. Jogo realized that he was no match for Gojo, and retreated with his allies.

  • The Cursed Training Arc focused on Yuji’s training under Gojo’s guidance, as well as his interactions with some of the other jujutsu students. He learned how to control his cursed energy and how Domain Expansions worked. He also learned about the history and politics of the jujutsu world, such as the conflict between the traditionalist clans and the progressive reformers, and the existence of cursed objects and techniques.
  • Yuji met some of the students from Kyoto Jujutsu High School, such as Toge Inumaki, a quiet boy who could manipulate people with his words; Maki Zenin, a skilled fighter who came from a prestigious clan but lacked cursed energy; Panda, a talking animal who was actually an artificial curse; and Aoi Todo, a muscular and eccentric boy who had a crush on idols.
  • He also met some of the teachers from both schools, such as Mei Mei, a greedy but powerful sorcerer who used crows as her weapons; Utahime Iori, a strict but caring teacher from Kyoto; and Kiyotaka Ijichi, an assistant manager who helped Yuji with his training.

Yuji faced Jogo again in an underground tunnel, where he showed his improvement in using cursed energy and fighting skills. He also managed to activate Sukuna’s domain expansion for a brief moment, surprising both Jogo and Gojo. However, he was still far from being able to defeat Jogo or control Sukuna.

  • The Vs. Mahito Arc introduced one of the main antagonists of the series: Mahito, a special grade curse who could manipulate human souls and create cursed humans. He was part of a group of curses who wanted to destroy humanity and revive Sukuna. He targeted Yuji because he saw him as an anomaly who defied the natural order of things.

Yuji teamed up with Kento Nanami, a former salaryman who became a jujutsu sorcerer after quitting his job. They investigated a series of mysterious deaths caused by Mahito’s experiments, where he turned humans into grotesque monsters. They encountered Mahito in a movie theater, where he revealed his twisted philosophy and his ability to reshape his own body.

Yuji also befriended Junpei Yoshino, a bullied student who loved movies and had a latent talent for jujutsu. Junpei was manipulated by Mahito, who gave him a cursed object and convinced him that humans were evil and deserved to die. Yuji tried to save Junpei from Mahito’s influence and invited him to join the jujutsu school. However, Mahito intervened and killed Junpei in front of Yuji, triggering his rage and sorrow.

  • Yuji fought Mahito with Nanami’s help and unleashed Sukuna’s power for a brief moment. He also learned a valuable lesson from Nanami: that jujutsu sorcerers do not fight for justice or revenge, but for the sake of those who died. He vowed to kill Mahito and stop his plans.

  • The Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc featured a joint training event between the Tokyo and Kyoto schools, where the students competed in various games and battles. The event was also a cover for the Kyoto students to assassinate Yuji on orders from their principal.
  • The event was interrupted by a group of curses led by Hanami, another special grade curse who worked with Jogo and Mahito. The students and teachers joined forces to fight Hanami and the other intruders, while Gojo was sealed away by a mysterious sorcerer named Suguru Geto.

Yuji participated in the event, where he reunited with Megumi and Nobara, who threatened to kill him for disappearing the way he did. He also met some of the Kyoto students, such as Mai Zenin, Maki’s twin sister who hated her for leaving the clan; Kasumi Miwa, a loyal and diligent swordswoman; Noritoshi Kamo, a prodigy who came from a notorious clan; and Mechamaru Ultimate, a cyborg-like sorcerer who had a hidden agenda.

Yuji formed a friendship with Aoi Todo, who initially wanted to kill him but changed his mind after asking him his type of woman. Todo became Yuji’s mentor and taught him how to use the Black Flash technique, which enhanced his cursed energy output. They fought Hanami together, along with Megumi and Maki, who showed their growth and potential as sorcerers.

  • Geto Suguru, who was revealed to be an old friend and rival of Gojo, trapped Gojo in an inverted sphere of cursed energy. Geto had betrayed the jujutsu world and allied himself with the curses, collecting cursed objects and techniques for his own purposes. He also had an unknown master who orchestrated the attack on the event.
  • Gojo managed to break free from the sphere using his Six Eyes technique, which allowed him to see through the curse. He then unleashed his full power against Hanami and Jogo, who tried to escape with Geto’s help. He also met Yuji again and praised him for surviving the event.

  • The Death Painting Arc followed Yuji and his friends as they returned to Tokyo after the event, where they were assigned to exorcise some curses that escaped from prison. They encountered three half-human half-curse siblings named Eso, Kechizu, and Choso, who were known as Death Paintings. They were creations of Noritoshi Kamo, a legendary sorcerer who experimented on humans and curses. They had blood manipulation abilities and a grudge against the jujutsu world.

Yuji fought Eso and Kechizu with Nobara’s help, using their teamwork and creativity to overcome their enemies. They also learned that Sukuna had a special interest in them, as he recognized them as his distant relatives. He killed Eso himself after Yuji switched with him briefly.

  • Megumi faced Choso alone in an abandoned building, where he used his shadow technique and his hidden domain expansion to match Choso’s power. He also revealed that he had inherited the Ten Shadows Technique from his father Toji Fushiguro, who was a notorious assassin who killed many sorcerers.
  • They managed to defeat the Death Paintings, but Choso survived and developed a bond with Yuji due to Sukuna’s influence. He believed that Yuji was his younger brother and vowed to protect him from harm.

The season ended with Yuji meeting Yuta Okkotsu, a powerful sorcerer who was rumored to be Gojo’s equal. Yuta was the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High Prequel manga, which told the story of how he became a sorcerer.
