The relatively new manga shows us how the simplest of choices can shape our lives forever. Returning to college after a break, Kwon Yoonho decides to take a pottery class. But what he doesn’t know is that his instructor will be Lee Suyeon: a professor with a reputation for favoritism whom all the students go out of their way to avoid. Yet from the moment Yoonho lays eyes on his new teacher, he recognizes the same quality of isolation and solemnity that has been ever-present in his own life.

The two begin to mold a deeper connection as their lives become intertwined; but when Suyeon’s ex-boyfriend – and first love – Choi Gyeol makes a sudden appearance, an unbridled sense of jealousy and possessiveness becomes impossible for Yoonho to ignore. And so the edges of the love triangle are drawn.

Why do Women Make up the Most of the Viewership?

Women are often drawn to the complex and well-developed male characters often featured in BL stories and the fact that there are not one but two attractive guys, that just seals the deal.  We see men showing emotions, talking about feelings, and being affectionate as opposed to their counterparts in other mangas.

Usually, the main character has some “female lead” characteristics. This doesn’t mean that he’s effeminate; but he usually is the one to be protected, the one that the public is going to empathize with. An ML like that makes it easier for female fans to relate than it would be with an FL, because it’s only based on personality and without having the barrier of “I can’t see myself in her because she’s tall/blonde/rich/ and I’m not”.

Although yaoi is primarily targeted at young, heterosexual women, previous studies have found that bisexual and homosexual male and female enthusiasts also account for a considerable portion of the viewership. It’s no surprise that new BL mangas are hitting the stands by the dozen and fans are still asking for more.
