Gon Freecs, the protagonist of Hunter x Hunter, became a hunter at a very young age, despite it being the toughest exam of the Hunter world. Only an elite individual who possessed extraordinary skills could pass this exam and get the license to explore and capture rare creatures. Gon’s Journey was backed by his desire to reunite with his father, Ging Feecs, a legendary Hunter who abandoned him as an infant. However, it begs the question: would Gon have ventured outside of Whale Island, the secluded island he grew up on, even if his father had not been absent?

In the Hunter x Hunter numerous kinds of hunters such as Beast hunters, Bounty hunters etc. But the show is named Hunter x Hunter after Gon, since Gon is actually hunting his own father Ging, who is supposedly the best hunter. Passing the hunter exam would have made it easier for Gon to find his father and it was the sole reason why Gon left Whale island. But even if the sole purpose of Gon’s life was finding Ging, he showed certain enthusiasm towards the nature and animals of the vale island.

If not for finding Ging, Gon would have had some other social or adventurous goal to make him leave the Whale Island.
