Cyberpunk 2077: Will we get another series based on the game?

Cyberpunk 2077 Will we get another series based on the game

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has been a major success for an anime based on a game, that too Cyberpunk 2077. It has been a hugely profitable and popular project for Netflix and CD Projekt Red. Season 1 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners revived Cyberpunk 2077 and brought make memories and a sense of nostalgia to the gaming community.

With the end of this season, fans are left to wonder if there would ever be a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. If not, did season 1 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners do justice to the game and the community?

Did the Anime adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077 work out for the fans?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners proved that the remake of a game as an anime is possible and can be done justice to. The anime might not have been exactly a video game adaptation but it did manage to give a soul to the Night City and present it in a manner which the game couldn’t.

Fans believe that the anime surpassed expectations long before it did try to create any. CD Projekt Red has had some well-received responses from the projects it undertook to adapt video games into TV shows. The Witcher was one such live-action adaptation, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners actually met those expectations through a thorough portrayal of the game itself.

Will there be a season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?

CD Projekt Red has had some great success bringing games to life through adaptations. But recently CD Projekt Red confirmed that the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was only a standalone entry and a season 2 is basically out of the question. However, it makes sense as the first season was well-crafted and detailed enough to cover the story of Cyberpunk 2077. Moreover, it has to be understood that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners didn’t leave any loose ends to the story.

  • They completely covered whatever was needed to be and it was a show which truly brought around a better understanding of the Night City and the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
  • Therefore, it would be justified not to have a sequel, as fans aren’t dissatisfied with what they received from this mega project.

Will there ever be an anime based on Cyberpunk 2077 in the future?

It would not be right to force a season 2 for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, but it doesn’t entirely mean the end for Cyberpunk. Forcing another season isn’t right, but to expect another show altogether that would be a part of the franchise is a good shot to take.

That being said, we do have good news as well! Satoru Honma, the community manager of CD Projekt Red recently made an announcement that the studio is taking an interest in taking the franchise forward, not just with a second season of Edgerunners, but with a different story altogether.

There are more than enough stories to tell in the world of Cyberpunk, therefore, a new show with a different plot would just be another project for the studio to undertake and for the audience to watch! We will possibly also get to see characters like Johnny Silverhand in future adaptations.
