Demon Slayer Season 3 Mist Hashira vs Gyokko - Who will win

The Mist Hashira vs Gyokko battle is a part of the ongoing Swordsmith Village Arc of Demon Slayer. The battle takes place near the hut where Tokito’s sword was being repaired. The battle of the Mist Hashira vs Gyokko is a major part of the Swordsmith village arc as it examines the characters in the extremities of their emotional states. While we see the Mist Hashira Tokito lunging at Gyokko with an air of anger while the latter enjoys showcasing his ‘creations’ with an overwhelmingly sadistic attitude.

In this article, we will look at the battle of Mist Hashira vs Gyokko, the Upper Moon Five. Apart from that, we will also look at the characters separately and how their distinct approaches lead to the battle.

The Mist Hashira Muichiro: a battle of Memories and Guilt

The Mist Hashira Tokito is a very conflicted character throughout the course of the story. He is the youngest Hashira and a descendant of the Yoriichi bloodline. Being strong with inherited blood also gives one the curse of inherited memory. The Battle of the Mist Hashira vs Gyokko examines Muichiro as a character who is lost in a state of memory and rememory, a concept referring to a sense of estrangement and nostalgia merged into one to become a person’s intrinsic fear factors.

Muichiro Tokito in the battle of the Mist Hashira vs Gyokko is shown in two different shades. At first, he is shown as a character who is not bothered about saving everybody but only reacting to his top priority. We will then witness a sudden shift in the narrative as he begins to remember certain incidents from his tragic childhood.

This shift constantly leads to the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito being suddenly empathetic towards the swordsmiths and going on to save them. The character of the Mist Hashira is also shown as one who easily forgets things. This might be a response to the trauma which he wishes to forget.

Upper Moon Five Gyokko and a sadistic artist within a monster

  • The Upper Moon Five Gyokko is a very strong foe. He is shown as a character who is obsessed with his ‘creations’.
  • These creations are his vases and the trapped individuals within them. Gyokko can manipulate everything within those vases and he shows this to Tokito as well.

Throughout this encounter is obsessively engrossed in a narration of his sadistic endeavors and he has put his ‘creative’ energy into creating a living sculpture out of dead bodies naming it ‘Death Throes of the Smith’.

The encounter with Gyokko enrages Tokito and he lunges at the demon to strike him to death. However, Gyokko possesses the power to teleport between vases and his speed is impeccably swift. This keeps Tokito in a state of confusion and the Hashira switches to an unplanned strike pattern leading to his entrapment in Gyokko’s water bubble.

Gyokko is a strong demon who takes strong pleasure in torture. He likes to see his prey being tortured to death as he enjoys their pain and agony more than their end in life. He is a demon who squeezes the life out of his prey in a slow, suffocating, and poisonous manner.

The Battle of the Mist Hashira and Gyokko: who will win and how?

Gyokko first attacks Tokito using the Thousand Needle Fish Kill and the Mist Hashira is inflicted with severe injuries. Moreover, he is poisoned with those needles and Gyokko enjoys taking over his body towards a slow and poisonous death.

However, the battle of the Mist Hashira vs Gyokko takes an unexpected turn when Tokito lunges at Gyokko one more time with all of his injuries. Here, he is trapped in a water bubble which immediately restricts his breathing and the motions of his blade.

While trying to break free from the bubble, Muichiro begs Kaguya to send at least two Hashiras and suddenly Tanjiro appears. Tanjiro tells him about the uncertainty of the future and why he is accepting his death in this manner.

Kotetsu also gets injured in the process of trying to break the Mist Hashira free from the bubble. Seeing all of this unfold before his eyes, he suddenly gets a vision of his father who tells him that working together as human beings can give them unbelievable strength. Muichiro breaks free from the bubble and his Demon Slayer Mark also gets activated.

  • Meanwhile, Gyokko creates octopus-like tentacles and swings at the Mist Hashira Tokito. In due course, Tokito gains immense strength and speed and Gyokko starts growing afraid of the heightened abilities of his enemy.
  • Tokito provokes the demon further by telling him that his vases are poorly designed and he is a coward with small arms. After a battle of words and Gyokko attacking Tokito with various demonic arts, he reveals his true form. A giant humanoid with scales attacks Muichiro and a brutal battle begins.

Towards the end of the battle, Muichiro uses his Mist Breathing: Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds and constantly shifts and hides in his own clouded mist. The demon Gyokko is confused and in his helpless state of being Muichiro decapitates the Upper Five in an instant.

Conclusion

The Demon Slayer Mark on Tokito fades away after the battle. He is severely poisoned and is on the verge of death but his will keeps him from giving up on his life. The battle of the Mist Hashira vs Gyokko is, therefore, an important part of Tokito’s awakening and the demon slayers coming together to defeat a common enemy.
