The rivalry between Nagi and Isagi started when Nagi wasn’t serious about football. Isagi changed Nagi’s attitude. Nagi in return helped Isagi sharpen his ability to predict other players’ moves on the field.

  • He doesn’t mind taking others’ help to beat Isagi. Isagi was the first stepping stone in the world of football for him.
  • Isagi was able to get stronger against his other opponents, Rin and Barou with the help of Nagi. Isagi understands Nagi’s play the best, maybe only second to Reo.

Bachira was the first person in the blue lock, besides Ego, to recognize the potential of Isagi. Both the characters have had parallel growth ever since their first encounter, Bachira being a step or two ahead. Isagi experienced one of his best growth spurts when he lost Bachira to Rin’s team. Seeing his friend go away without him being able to do anything made him grow into a stronger striker.

Isagi also helped Bachira grow at many points. When Isagi gets into a duel with Rin, Bachira realizes the difference in ability between him and the other two. Isagi was also the first person to understand and appreciate Bachira’s style of football.

Shohei Barou

Their rivalry has been nothing short of amusement. It has been the best rivalry of the blue lock so far. Barou is a monster and his talent knows no limits and Isagi keeps pushing him to pursue new limits, whether by calling him a loser and shattering his ego or using him to carry out his planned plays.

Isagi understood long back that Barou was a player in a completely different league than him and taming him is next to impossible. This helped Isagi in improvising his planning and his vision to suit Barou’s unpredictable plays on the field. They truly bring out the best in each other. The best Barou moments during the U-20 match and the match against Rin were all thanks to Isagi’s provocation.

Rin and Isagi are not just rivals but complementary to each other in terms of their playing styles. It has been stated quite openly that Isagi helps Rin in achieving his best. Rin was the first character Isagi recognized as a rival. He knew Rin was the best and to be the best striker in the world himself he needed to defeat Rin.

Initially looking down on Isagi, Rin later recognizes the potential Isagi holds in learning between matches. The match between PXG and Bastard Munchen in the neo-egotist league will give their rivalry new meaning.

The member of world eleven was intrigued by Isagi’s plays during the match against U-20. The difference in abilities between the two was reduced by the intense training Isagi went through under Noel Noa.

Only with the help of his master Isagi was he able to stand victorious against Kaiser. There’s still more he needs to acquire to have a pronounced victory against his rival.

Conclusion

Anime rivalries have always been vital in understanding the importance of a catalyst for the main character’s growth. Whether it be Naruto and Sasuke or Sanji and Zoro.  Isagi’s genuine respect for his rivals and cordial demeanor lets him utilize his true potential. These exchanges which are not always friendly in Blue Lock have made it a fun ride to follow.
