Top 10 Highest-Selling Manga of 2023 so far

As the year 2023 approaches its half-time mark, Oricon released the statistics of different manga titles and their sales for the first half of the year. The statistics showed the highest-selling manga titles for 2023 so far with two sports manga in the top 5. One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Kingdom are the other manga on the list. Top 10 Highest-Selling Manga of 2023 so far

10. Kingdom

 

Kingdom manga has been going on for decades. It secured a spot for itself on the list of best-selling manga. The Japanese manga by Yasuhisa Hara publishes in Shuiesha’s weekly young jump. The manga is set in the warring states of China, where the protagonist who is a war orphan aims to become one of the strongest generals to improve his state of life.

9. Oshi no Ko

Oshi no Ko finally made it to the list of the top 10 highest-selling manga. The manga was adapted into an anime which is airing right now. With one of the best pilot episodes of over 90 minutes, the anime established itself. Every successive episode maintains the hype created by episode 1. The success of the anime also affects that of the manga. It has sold over 1.6 million copies so far.

8. My Hero Academia

The manga takes frequent breaks citing the health of the creator Kohei Horikoshi and sometimes delayed production as the reasons. The breaks don’t seem to affect the manga much as it remains one of the best-selling manga of the year so far. The anime came out with its season 6 recently. My hero academia is also in its final stage.

7. Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers season 2 premiered in January 2023, helping the manga make it to the list. The manga concluded with a controversial ending and a controversial final arc, leaving fans in confusion. The lack of clarity and absurdity of the ending was severely disliked by fans. Whether it was liked or disliked the sales seem to be in the manga’s favour.

6. Spy x Family

The Spy family anime and manga took the year 2022 by storm with successful manga sales and anime spreading the waku waku wave everywhere. There is an upcoming movie and season scheduled for 2023 which only promises more success on the way for the series.

5. One Piece

One piece is a regular member of this list, this year with 3,550,097 copies sold so far. Eichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece has been treating fans well with the recent developments in the manga. The mysteries of the manga are gradually unraveling as the manga is in its final saga. 

4. Jujutsu Kaisen

Previously topping the charts in 2021 and 2022, finding Jujutsu Kaisen on this list is no surprise. The manga sold over 3,757,215 copies. The upcoming season 2 will probably push up the sales even more and we’ll see an upgrade in the ranking in the next sales chart.

3. Slam Dunk

With 4,199,966 copies, Slam Dunk takes the 3rd spot. The Slam Dunk movie helped the manga in becoming one of the highest-selling manga this year. The movie has been commercially very successful also winning an award for the best animation of the year from the Japan Academy Film Prize Association.

2. Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man managed to sell 4,492,096 copies landing the second spot for itself. In the recent chapters, we see Chainsaw Man saving Asa and some developments in their relationship dynamics. The anime which came out in 2022 was also fairly successful, fans are eagerly looking forward to any announcements on season 2. 

1. Blue lock

Blue Lock is here to take this year by storm with a very successful anime and topping the charts of the most-sold manga during the first half of 2023. The anime aired during the Fifa world cup which probably helped in skyrocketing the digits. The manga sold over 8,046,032 copies to secure the first spot on the list. 

Conclusion

The second half of the year is lined up with the release of some of the best-known anime, including Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 and Spy Family season 2. These will surely affect the manga sales and the overall best-selling manga of the year 2023. Will Blue Lock remain to stay on top? Will Jujutsu Kaisen take over the top spot for 3rd year in a row?
