The story revolves around Jotaro Kujo, the grandson of Joseph Joestar, and his group of friends as they embark on a journey to Egypt to confront Dio, who has come back to life using Jonathan Joestar’s body.
It is also revealed that certain individuals have started acquiring Stands, a manifestation with unique and powerful abilities. Throughout their adventures and intense battles, Jotaro discovers that Dio’s Stand, The World, has the ability to stop time.
What led to the theory of Jotaro and Dio’s same stand?

This is a good time to explore how Jotaro and Dio are related. You see, Dio had resurrected using Jonathan’s body. This makes Dio the second great-grandfather of Jotaro.
As the plot unfolds, we discover that Jotaro possesses his own Stand called Star Platinum. Star Platinum has heightened awareness and incredible speed. Another notable Stand is Joseph’s Hermit Purple, enabling him to divine information. Meanwhile, Dio possesses a distinct Stand called The World, granting him the power to halt time.
Why are Jotaro’s and Dio’s abilities the same in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders?

Based on this occurrence, a theory emerges. According to this theory, Dio Brando’s Stand, The World, had the ability to mimic the Stand ability of any living Joestar. Since Stands of family members have similar abilities, it does not appear to be in the realm of impossibility that Dio’s stand is able to do so.
How Dio was able to use Hermit Purple?
Dio utilizing Hermit Purple can easily be explained through this hypothesis. Moreover, it stands to reason that Dio’s version of Hermit Purple was more powerful than Joseph’s because he possessed Jonathan’s body, and was a far more powerful character.
- This also means that stopping time was initially Star Platinum’s ability. The additional abilities displayed by Star Platinum, such as heightened reflexes and rapid punches could be easily achieved by manipulating time.
- Jotaro was perhaps oblivious to the true power of Star Platinum until he faced off against Dio.
How was Dio able to copy Jotaro’s stand? Explained
The reason behind Dio’s ability to copy Joestar’s power is open to speculation. One possible explanation is that The World can only replicate the abilities of individuals with blood ties to the Joestar lineage.
