Shaman King anime is one of the most beautiful, and unrecognized shonen anime and manga franchises of the last two decades. Though it has its admirers, it has been consistently overshadowed by other anime shows over the years. But the Shaman King anime is gearing up for its reboot with the sequel “Shaman King: Flowers“.

On Monday, August 14, 2023, the official Twitter account for the Shaman King anime series announced a television anime adaptation of the original series’ sequel manga. The series, titled Flowers, was unveiled alongside a 75-second promotional film spotlighting the numerous characters who would appear in the show.

Shaman King Anime: What is it about?

  • Shaman King is the tale of a mellow youngster with a supernatural talent. The story follows him and his eccentric pals as they strive to become the finest there has ever been. They engage in exciting bouts with flamboyant foes. The primary protagonists are Shamans who can see, communicate with, and manipulate the spirits of the dead to their own detriment.
  • Yoh, a lethargic but good-natured boy, forms a friendship with Amidamaru, a centuries-dead samurai warrior. They engage in the Shaman Fight, a battle royale that will determine the Shaman King.

Although the Shaman King anime remains somewhat well-liked in Japan, its success isn’t widespread. Its distribution in the West was part of a second wave of “modern” animation, following the success of shows like Dragon Ball Z, Pokémon, and Sailor Moon in the 1990s. One Piece, Naruto, and other anime would become popular with a new generation of viewers, propelling anime as a whole into the mainstream.

The original Shaman King manga series was adapted into a television Shaman King anime series in July 2001, which ran for 64 episodes until September 2002. This was followed by a re-adaptation of the series in April 2021, which lasted until April 2022 and featured 52 episodes in total.

The new Shaman King Sequel – What to expect

The serialization of Shaman King Flowers in JumpX magazine ran from 2012 to 2014. Flowers’ follow-up series, Shaman King The Super Star, debuted in 2018 and has since been serialized in Shonen Magazine Edge. Hiroyuki Takei was the mastermind behind each of these Shaman King series.

The plot of Shaman King Flowers will continue where the original left off, and a brand-new teaser has given fans a fresh look at the impending anime! With a fresh reboot anime series adapting the entire manga’s tale a few years ago, Hiroyuki Takei’s Shaman King manga series unexpectedly made a tremendous comeback, giving fans the full experience they hoped for.

As of the most recent announcement, the television anime adaptation of the Shaman King Flowers sequel series is scheduled to debut on Japanese broadcast television in January 2024.
