Yuki Tsukumo felt like a main character with her decisive entrance in the recent Jujutsu Kaisen Episode, but who is she really? We met her before during Gojo’s Past Arc, interacting with Suguru, green-lighting his ambition of creating a world without non-jujutsu sorcerers. But is that all there is to her?
In this article, I will be delving deep into her character and her significance in the story. The article will contain spoilers so readers are warned before they move any further. Buckle up and let’s get going.
Yuki Tsukumo
She is one of the only 4 Special Grade Sorcerers in the story, the teacher who made the monster known as Aoi Todo, and the one who pushed Suguru to consider eliminating the entire non-sorcerer population to solve the greater problem of Curses. She has a nonchalant personality and is not aligned with the Jujutsu High because she feels that the Higher-Up’s way of doing things is not solving the problem.
She travels around the world finding a viable and efficient way to get rid of Curses. During one of her journeys, she finds a young child who is bored of beating a person older than him. This kid is Todo Aoi who she takes under her wing and introduces him to a world of even greater excitement. Wanting to talk to someone of her own rank, she comes to meet Gojo and ends up meeting Suguru. This is where she partially greenlit his idea of exterminating the entire non-sorcerer population to remove the problems of Curses.
While consoling him of Rika’s death, she tells him to solve his morality dilemma by seriously considering what he feels about the other side. In this way, she has contributed to making two huge monsters within the story. This makes her considerably significant in the story, but this is not all. Before we move further with her significance in future arcs, let’s first understand how strong she really is.
Her Abilities
She is a powerful sorcerer, being one of the only 4 Special Grade Sorcerers in the story. Her bright and tacky personality might be able to deceive you, however, she is a very tactful fighter, thinking of her moves ahead before she enters the fray. Carefully observing and deciding the best moves in the scenario, no wonder, Todo is an amazing fighter.
- She is a master of Hand-to-Hand combat, greatly overpowering Kenjaku in close combat.
- As a Special Grade, her curse energy output is off the charts. She is leagues above a Grade 1 in both output and control. Her efficiency in control allows her to shift from her Cursed Technique to Reverse Cursed Technique to anti-Domain techniques in the blink of an eye.
- Her Innate Technique [Star Rage] allows her to add virtual mass to herself and to the objects she targets it to.
- Garuda is her Shikigami, onto which she applies her Technique to use as a Cursed tool. It can also fight independently, enabling situations where they fight as partners.
Her use of Reverse Cursed Technique isn’t as high as Hakari or Gojou, however, she has a refined control to heal from fatal injuries in an instant. Her Domain Expansion was never shown in the story, but it was described as an ability that would imbue all the targets within her domain with her Innate Technique, allowing her to easily maneuver through her opponents.

What makes her such an important character?
Yuki Tsukumo is a very important character who will move on to play very important in future arcs. For starters, she is the reason why Yuji and Choso are alive during their confrontation with Kenjaku and Uraume. Moving ahead, she becomes the key force that protects Tengen from Kenjaku’s assault.
Despite her reluctance to work together with the Jujutsu High, she agrees to work with them to become one of Tengen’s bodyguards in exchange for being able to interact with them. As an ex-Star Plasma Vessel, she is the only one in the story who can truly understand the state Tengen is in, after Kenjaku. She reproached Tengen for retaining their immortality and sacrificing young girls to continue the process.

She moves on to fight Kenjaku when he comes to kill Tengen. She absolutely demolishes him but due to a slight miscalculation in their plan, she ends up losing her life. However, this fight with Kenjaku alongside Choso opened up the villain for us. It helped us understand how strong Kenjaku is, his true abilities, and why it is a must that he must be eliminated.
Conclusion
Yuki Tsukumo, in short, is a powerhouse that the Jujutsu side has regained during the Shibuya Incident after losing Gojo. Her actions will define the narrative and how we view the Jujutsu World to a greater extent now than before. She is another cog to the grand mechanical structure of Jujutsu Kaisen which has continuously emphasized that there is no good or bad side and only perspective which directs how we understand the story and its characters.
