Top 5 most shocking revelations from Egghead Arc

All the Vegapunks together from One Piece

Eiichiro Oda has created hundreds of characters and still managed to make them all somewhat unique (barring the female characters). It has been years since Vegapunk was mentioned in the manga for the first time. His profession became his entire identity. Oda incorporated all the elements in his designs that would come across a person’s mind at the mention of the word ‘scientist’.

We got the Einstein flair, a big brain (screams like a true 9-year-old), and an apple for its lid. This reveal was only a quick warm-up to prepare us for all the shocking surprises coming our way. Today we put all the shocking revelations from Egghead Arc in one place with our list of the top 5 most shocking revelations.

Similar to this list, the Spiel Anime Newsletter is the perfect spot to get all things anime in one place. From recommendations to the current affairs of the anime world, the newsletter has got it all. You just need to subscribe for the bi-weekly weeby goodness.

Top 5 most shocking revelations from Egghead Arc

5) Vegapunk’s devil fruit theory

Dr. Vegapunk shared his Devil Fruit theory with the Strawhats. According to him, Devil Fruits are the manifestation of people’s dreams. These dreams are possible ways for the human body to evolve. We were introduced to Devil Fruits on day one. Getting some background information on their genesis was the perfect fuel we needed to get our minds racing.

Vegapunk also confirms that a Gum Gum fruit has never existed. With this confirmation, Oda brings the attention back to how ridiculous a rubber man would be and that’s why nobody ever desired such a power, hence no such devil fruit.

4) St. Saturn Jaygarcia’s Devil Fruit

We’ve been presented with enough chances to get accustomed to the devious politics and tactics of the world government. For the first time, we got tangible proof of what the powers of those who sit at the top of the world government look like. Saturn’s devil fruit is an awakened mythical zoan fruit that resembles the form of a spider.

All the information is a treasure trove for the power scaling enthusiasts, hinting at what the remaining four elders might have in store for us. They might also have awakened devil fruits.

3) Kuma’s backstory

Kuma became the universal enemy after Sabaody. He’s truly the man and the myth, who has now become a legend. Oda went above and beyond to make him suffer. From his childhood when he underwent a lot of discrimination to his adulthood where he sacrificed his will to save Bonney, he never let go of the kindness in his heart.

His faith in Sun-God Nika turned the dynamics between him and Luffy from Sabaody into something bittersweet. Also, the fact that he’s still struggling at the red line at present just rubs salt into the wounds. Kuma’s backstory was not only shocking but also unexpectedly heartbreaking.

2) Truth behind Cobra’s assassination

Oda has a habit of revealing everything in bits and pieces, always leaving us on the edge, asking for more. The truth behind King Cobra’s death was so much more than we could have imagined. We witnessed an extended interaction between the Five Elders and Imu as well.

The fact that Vivi also bears the D in her name not only elevates her importance in the story but deepens her connection with Luffy as well. Additionally, Cobra’s assassination has also made Wapol an important character in the story.

1) God Valley Incident

The outline of the God Valley Incident was available to us for quite some time. But it still couldn’t prepare us for the truly sickening deeds of the Celestial Dragons and what moved Garp, the Hero of Marines, and Roger the Pirate King to form a temporary alliance. The God Valley Incident smoothly transcended us into Kuma’s flashback and how he found his devil fruit.

Not only Kuma but Kaido wouldn’t have had his “successful” devil fruit without the Rock Pirates’ presence at the God Valley. And the alleged use of the Mother Flame to erase that which is not beneficial to the World Government. Gloriosa (Elder Nyon) being a part of the Rock Pirates could easily be throned as the biggest reveal from the God Valley Incident.

Conclusion

The story in One Piece progresses at a speed comparable to how fast Nami’s eyes brighten up at the sound of money. Going through all these revelations once again just helps us realize how rewatching One Piece after it ends will blow our minds over and over as everything is connected to something else. Egghead has truly been a treat for the fans of the One Piece lore.
